Gretna Public Schools unveils new boundaries for Cedar Hollow Elementary opening

New Gretna Public Schools’ elementary school boundaries were announced yesterday. These new boundaries are due to the opening of the new Cedar Hollow Elementary and will take effect in August when the school officially opens for the 2024-2025 school year.

Cedar Hollow Elementary

Families who live in the following neighborhoods are assigned to attend the new Cedar Hollow Elementary, located at 8220 S 170th Street: Cedar Hollow, Cedar Ridge, Giles Pointe, Harrison Woods, Hills of Aspen, Hillview, Mirabel, Windsor East and Windsor West.

Squire John Thomas Elementary

Families who live in the following neighborhoods are assigned to attend Squire John Thomas Elementary, located at 11221 Northridge Drive: Highland Pointe, Highland Trails, Lincoln Place, Point Sans Arc, Prairie Ridge and the SW Area (West of Hwy 6 & South of Cornhusker Rd, West of 222 St & South of Centennial Rd, West of 225 St & South of Cary St).

Whitetail Creek Elementary

Families who live in the following neighborhoods are assigned to Whitetail Creek Elementary, located at 19110 Greenleaf Street: Crystal Creek, Sarpy Heights, Sunset Meadows, NE of Hwy 6/Hwy 370 Area (South of Cornhusker Rd & North of Railroad Line including the Avenue 204 Apartments).

In addition to the new elementary school, GPS will also be introducing a third middle school, located off 192nd and Giles, in the future. The boundaries for this school have not yet been announced.

There is no doubt that these changes will impact the community, with many families’ routines being disrupted. Superintendent Travis Lightle understands this impact but points to the opportunities and positive impact the new schools will provide.

“It is important to note that while boundary changes may impact certain families, our commitment to providing quality education in every school building remains unwavering,” Superintendent Travis Lightle wrote in the announcement letter. “We are grateful for your continued support and understanding.”
