Normally, students would turn in their laptops at the end of the school year, but this year, the school requires them to take them home along with their chargers and keep them over the summer. However, this new procedure comes with restrictions.
“Students will have to leave their devices in their building if the insurance is not paid by the deadline,” tech coordinator Dave Stasny said.
If the student has lost or damaged their laptop, charger, or charging block, they will have to pay for the item. Insurance doesn’t cover purposeful damage to the laptop or any part of the charger but it will cover accidental damage. Also, if lost laptops cannot be found, the student will pay the school to replace them.
“If a device is lost we can lock down the laptop and attempt to locate it,” Stastny said, “The student is still responsible for the device if it is lost or stolen.”
The charger and charging block both cost $25 separately. If the charger or block has minor damage, the tech office will attempt to repair it, but there are no promises on what they can fix.
“The tech office may be able to do simple repairs,” Stastny said.
If a student’s laptop needs to be replaced then they will have to contact the tech office or Stasny here.
