In three days, students will be preparing to ‘see the lights’ at the Gretna Public Schools combined prom. While Homecoming didn’t have a traditional royal court, the “At Last We See The Light” Prom will, and voting has officially opened for it.
Due to having no seniors, there will be no Gretna East King nor Queen; however, juniors have been given the opportunity to be crowned Prince or Princess. Sets of juniors from both Gretna East and Gretna High will be crowned.
“I did not expect it at all,” Prince candidate, junior Andrew Jones said, “I didn’t tell anyone to vote for me so I’m excited.”
Princess candidate, junior Emily Woods was honored, as well.
“I’m grateful that my peers think so highly of me,” she said.
Juniors who would like to vote on the GEHS Prince and Princess, need to complete this Google Form, which was emailed to them on Tuesday. Due to it being a junior/senior Prom, only current juniors from East are allowed to vote for Griffin Royalty. The Google Form is set to close at 4 p.m. tomorrow, and coronation will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Prom which will be at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the dance will conclude at 10 p.m. Students will not be allowed into the dance once the doors have closed.
Students will be breathalyzed upon entry to the dance and then again before Post Prom. Bags and purses will also be searched, so administration recommends not bringing them. Additionally, administration has stated that provocative dancing will not be tolerated, and all school rules will be enforced.
