National Honor Society’s annual Trunk-or-Treat will not happen this year. Instead, the NHS will host a Fall Festival inside the school.
The new Fall Festival will be held inside the GEHS commons on Nov. 1 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
“I wanted to bring it inside and make it more interactive for the kids,” NHS sponsor Christina Modrell said. “If we moved it inside, that allows for us to do more than just the Trunk or Treat.”
The Fall festival will still have ten candy stations, but having the event indoors will allow for a variety of other activities. There will be 15 stations with numerous games, crafts and more, all in an attempt to make the event even more enjoyable for the kids.
Five groups outside of NHS will be participating in the event: DECA, Drama Club, Hope Squad, German Club and Baseball.
“We are trying to make it as interactive for them [the kids] as possible,” Modrell said. “I love watching the little kids interact with the high school students.”
NHS will collect boxed, canned and non-perishable food donations for the GPS Foundation Backpack Program.
Additionally, Modrell and the NHS officers hope the event will continue to strengthen connections within the GEHS community.
“I just want people to know Gretna East is a community and to just have fun with it,” NHS officer Maggie Pfaff said.
