Jerry quits Ben & Jerry’s, saying its independence on social issues has been stifled (Associated Press)
Ice cream just got political. After 47 years, Ben & Jerry’s co-founder, Jerry Greenfield, announced he is leaving the company. Founders, Greenfield and Ben Cohen, cited issues with their British parent company, Unilever. Greenfield and Cohen feel that their ability to speak out on social issues has been hindered by Unilever. This move also comes after Unilever announced plans to spin off its ice cream brands, including Ben & Jerry’s, into one company called Magnum Ice Cream. The two co-founders feel that this undermines their company’s mission of social justice.
Have a great weekend and homecoming, Griffins. Thank you for staying informed.
