Coming off of their State championship last year, the varsity girls’ soccer team is ready to add to their success and showcase their new skills on the field this season. The team will kick off its 2025 season on Thursday, March 20 in an away game against Elkhorn High at 7:30 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to this season; I’m excited to see what it has in store,” goalie, sophomore Allyson Jarosik said.
Last year, the girls ended the season with a 21-1 record. Building on their success from the previous season, they’ll be facing a whole new set of teams due to the change from the Omaha Metro Conference to the Eastern Midlands Conference.
“It’s going to be an exciting change,” Head Coach Chace Hutchinson said. “The conference is full of quality teams. I’m looking forward to seeing new stadiums, meeting new coaches and a different tournament format.”
Despite the change in conference, the team’s competitive determination remains unchanged as they aim for another dominating season.
“We didn’t lose anybody, so we have a lot to fall back on,” attacking midfielder senior Addison LaRock said.
A lot can change in a year. With that comes the weight of expectations and the pressure of being the team to beat, but they don’t plan on letting that slow them down.
“We talked about it a lot within our program, realizing that everything starts over and that last year does not matter this year on the field,” Hutchinson said. “So as a coaching staff, we’re always looking for things that they can improve upon, and we expect them to do the same thing.”
Throughout the winter, the girls pushed themselves through intense training seasons, refining their techniques and strengthening their teamwork to prepare for the season. Official practices started on March 3.
“Newspaper articles and people do talk, but we try our best not to let that dictate how we think,” Hutchinson said. “If we work hard and handle all of our responsibilities, ultimately, we know that we have done our best and that’s good enough.”
